Significance
Peribysin E is a cell adhesion inhibitor isolated from Periconia byssoides OUPS-N133. The first total synthesis of peribysin E is reported which features the ring contraction of epoxide G to aldehyde H. Completion of the synthesis revealed that the wrong absolute configuration had been assigned to the natural product.
