Significance

In this communication, Li and co-workers reported the synthesis of a borylated polythiophene via a B/Si exchange reaction. The trimethylsilyl- and hexyl-substituted polythiophene 1 was prepared by employing a typical Stille-type polycondensation. This polymer was then treated in sequence with BBr3 and MesCu, leading to novel borylated polymer 2, which was characterized by NMR, MALDI-TOF, and GPC. The authors also examined its conformation, photophysical properties, and electrochemical properties.
