Significance

A series of polymer-supported dendritic phosphine ligands G1-3(X)TPP was prepared. Thus, for example, hydromethylpolystyrene was coupled with hydroxyisophthalate under Mitsunobu conditions and the resulting polymeric phthalate was reduced to give G1(O)OH. Through similar condensation-reduction sequence(s), G2 and G3(O)OH were obtained. Triphenylphosphino (TPP) groups were introduced via ester condensation of Gn(O)OH with diphenylphosphinobenzoic acid to give Gn(O)TPP. Gn(N)TPP and Gn(S)TPP were also prepared starting with bromomethylpolystyrene.
