Significance
Peryleneamidine monoimide fused terthiophene 2 was synthesized and its electrochemical properties were studied. Electrochemical polymerization of 2 afforded a low-band-gap (E g = 0.9 eV) polythiophene 3. An extensive electrochemical study demonstrated that films of 3 are highly electroactive in both the p- and the n-doping process and this is attributed to the direct conjugation of the peryleneimide units with polythiophene main chain.
