Significance

The Toste group has continued their distinct work in the arena of Au(I)-catalyzed asymmetric reactions. This paper presents interesting findings in the role of the counteranion in which a chiral counteranion (not ligand) provides high selectivity for hydroalkoxylation and hydroamination reactions of allenes. The hydrocarboxylation of allenes was best accomplished with both chiral ligand and chiral counteranion used in conjunction.
