Isopropoxide Protection of Aryl Boronates in the Metal-Halogen Exchange

Significance
An in situ isopropoxide protection of pinacolyl borates is reported in this article. The isopropoxide shields the borate moiety from nucleophilic attacks of aggressive organolithium reagents. Thus, halogen-lithium exchange can be performed on these substrates leading to functionalized aryl and heteroaryl boronates.
