Significance

The authors developed a synthetically useful method for the intramolecular aziridination of alkenes. The starting compounds can be prepared in one-pot synthesis from allylic or homoallylic alcohols. The ring-opening reaction of the resulting aziridines by various nucleophiles occurs in a regio- and stereoselective manner, giving substituted oxazolidinones, which are useful synthones for the preparation of complex organic molecules.
