Significance

(+)-Tedanolide exhibits potent antitumor properties. Key steps in the Smith-Lee synthesis are (a) the fragment linkage of epoxide A with the lithium derivative of dithiane B and (b) oxidation of the aldehyde derived from D via the Evans-Tischenko reaction.
