Significance

Chiral α-hydroxyphosphonates are interesting intermediates in medicinal chemistry. The authors report the development of a tridentate Schiff base aluminum(III) complex for an efficient asymmetric hydrophosphonylation of aldehydes. The corresponding products are obtained in good yields and good to excellent enantioselectivities (up to 97% ee).
