Significance

This rhodium-catalyzed desymmetrization reaction can provide either ring-opening products or reductive arylation products with excellent enantioselectivities, and the chemoselectivity can be finely controlled by the solvent and water amount used. The nitrogen-containing enantiopure products are potentially useful building blocks for natural products and pharmaceutical syntheses.
