Significance

The authors describe a C-C coupling between acyclic 1,3-dienes and aryl alcohols or aldehydes under Ru-catalyzed transfer hydrogenation conditions using alcohols as terminal reductants. Selectivity for the branched product is observed in all cases and good yields are reported for a large scope of substrates. The present report provides a good alternative to carbonyl additions using preformed organometallic reagents.
