Polyglycerol-Supported Co- and Mn-Salen Complexes as Recyclable Catalysts

Significance

The polyglycerol-supported Mn-salen catalyst 1 was prepared by mixing polymeric salen with Mn(OAc)2×4H2O in refluxing DMF followed by treatment with LiCl at room temperature for 12 hours. The catalyst was used in the asymmetric epoxidation of olefins (60% quantitative conversion with 25-96% ee, 6 examples). The catalyst was recovered by precipitation and reused three times in the epoxidation of 5 (time < 5 min; 1st: 98% conv., 91% ee; 2nd: 96% conv., 92% ee; 3rd: 90% conv., 91% ee; 4th: 75% conv., 88% ee).
