Significance

Reported here is a convenient method for the regioselective synthesis of 4-trifluoromethyl-1,4,5-trisubstituted-1,2,3-triazoles by 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of trifluoromethyl alkynols with aliphatic azides under ruthenium-catalyzed conditions. The authors state that the regioselectivity appears to be controlled by the polarity effects. Perhaps due to unavailability of additional alkynols, the scope of the method was insufficiently investigated.
