Significance

Polycyclic aromatic compounds have attracted intense interest because of their electro- and photochemical properties and their application to organic functional materials. The authors demonstrate the synthesis of naphthyl- and anthrylazoles through an efficient, direct coupling of phenylazoles with internal alkynes in the presence of a rhodium catalyst with a copper oxidant.
