Distal IOL Haptic Detachment and Intracorneal Deposition of a Small Plunger Fragment from the Injector During Cataract Surgery
Distaler Abriss der Haptik einer Intraokularlinse und intrakorneale Ablagerung eines kleinen Fragments vom Stempel des Linseninjektors während einer KataraktoperationAutoren
Introduction
Phacoemulsification of the crystalline lens using micro-incision techniques, in combination with the implantation of folded hydrophilic or hydrophobic acrylic intraocular lenses, has become the global gold standard in cataract surgery.
However, there is a relative paucity of published data regarding clinically relevant mechanical damage occurring during the handling and implantation of contemporary intraocular lenses and associated injector systems [1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6]. This case report describes a partial detachment of one of the lens haptics during implantation, as well as the long-term presence of a particle originating from the injector plunger observed postoperatively.
