Significance
A new catalytic system for C-H activation/C-C coupling is disclosed. It offers a greatly broadened scope compared to the previous method by using aryl trifluoroborates as coupling partners and O2 or air as the oxidant. This protocol provides a preparative route for compounds not assessible via ortho-metalation/cross-coupling sequences like, for instance, highly electron-deficient arenes and various substituted phenyl acetic acids.
