Significance

An efficient method for the transformation of terminal alkynes into allenes has been developed. The reaction proceeds best under catalysis of CuI and with Cy₂NH. Various functional groups, including hydroxyl, nitro and mesityl as well as sp^{² C}-Br bonds are tolerated.
