Abstract

6,20–epoxylathyrol, isolated from Euphorbia lathyris L., is a pharmacologically inactive lathyrane type diterpene. After alkaline hydrolysis and reesterification of this natural product with aliphatic acids of various chain lengths, some 3,5–aliphatic diesters showed interesting cytotoxic properties. The influence of liposolubility on cytotoxic activity of 6,20–epoxylathyrol diesters is discussed.
