Antibacterial Activity of Freshwater Green Algae

Abstract

Ethanol extracts of 24 species of green algae were assayed for activity against growth of bacteria. Fourteen algae exhibited significant inhibitory activity against either Staphylococcus aureus or Bacillus subtilis, or both. No extract was inhibitory to Escherichia coli.
