Abstract
Two lignans, syringaresinol and 3–hydroxymethyl–2–(4–hydroxy–3,5–dimethoxypheny 1)–4–(4–hydroxy–3,5–dimethoxybenzoyl)tetrahydrofuran, and one bisbenzylisoquinoline alkaloid, berbamine, were isolated from leaves and stems of Berberis chilensis Gillies ex Hook. The co–occurence of lignans and benzyltetrahydroisoquinoline derivative alkaloid as a valuable taxonomic marker is discussed.
