Abstract

The present communication deals with the isolation and studies of three alkaloids – an aporphine and two pro–toberberines, identified to be magnoflorine, jatrorrhizine and columbamine from the leaves of Dioscoreophyllum cumminsii (Stapf) Diels. The identities of these compounds were established on the basis of various colour reactions in the day light and UV light, spectral data–MS, NMR, IR and co–chromatography with authentic samples in many PC and TLC solvent systems.
