Abstract

From the leaves of Rauwolfia mombasiana Stapf the alkaloids ajmalicine, corynantheol, normacusine B, norpurpeline, purpeline, vomifoline (= peraksine) and yohimbine have been isolated together with a new dihydroindole alkaloid, endolobine (1 – demethyl – 10 – methoxy – 19, 20 – didehydro–ajmalan – 17– one), and a partially characterised sesquimeric alkaloid. The inter–relationship of these alkaloids is briefly discussed.
