Abstract
A digitalis-type cardiotonic action of the aqueous extracts of the bark, flowers,
leaves and fruit of Viburnum lantana, Viburnum opulus and V. opulus var. st er ili
s has been demonstrated by the method of continuous infusion in isolated frog and
dog heart.
The glycoside concentrates from the bark of these species have a cardiotonic action
up to a dilution of 1:250000 and respond positively to all the reagents of the cardiotonic
glycosides.
The activity of the extracts decreases in the following order: bark, leaves, fruit,
flowers.
