Summary

Effect of the alcoholic extract of the leaves of Taxus baccata was observed in experimental myocardial necrosis in rats. Experimental myocardial necrosis was produced by subcutaneous injections of isoproterenol in the dose of 85 mg/kg. body weight on two consecutive days. The extract was given orally in the dose of 2 gm/kg body weight. Our findings on cardiac glycogen, serum free fatty acids, serum triglycérides, SGOT, SGPT, SLDH and serum cholesterol revealed significant protective effect of T. baccata on isoproterenol induced myocardial necrosis.
