Abstract

The leaf sample came from a mature rosette. Extraction and separation, by means of thin layer chromatography, was followed by a quantitative fluorimetric determination of digitoxin, gitaloxin, gitoxin, verodoxin and strospesid in leaves of Digitalis purpurea L. The extraction proved to be very selective with regard to these secondary glycosides.

It was arranged that the concentration of the corresponding spots of sample and reference were as little as possible dissimmilar from each other. The concentrations of the components from the reference solution spots on the chromatograms were: digitoxin = 203,1 ng, gitaloxin = 116,9 ng, gitoxin = 92,5 ng, verodoxin = 21,1 ng and strospesid = 20,9 ng. Between the results of six identical experiments which were carried out in duplicate, a standard deviation of 4,0–8,5 percent was observed.
