Abstract

The effect of temperature on seed germination in laboratory and field trials was studied in three species of Dioscorea. The optimum temperature for maximum germination in D. floribunda and D. composita was found to be 30° C and 25° C in D. deltoidea. The initiation and peak of germination were reached significantly earlier at the optimum temperatures. The months of July and August were found suitable for growing seed nurseries in field under Delhi conditions.
