THE ASSAY OF RAUWOLFIA CUMMINSII BY QUANTITATIVE THIN–LAYER CHROMATOGRAPHY

Summary

A method of assay based on thin–layer chromatography and quantitative elution has been investigated and applied to the evaluation of Rauwolfia cumminsii bark. The root bark sample yielded 2.7 per cent serpentine and 0.4 per cent reserpine but the rescinnamine content was too low for estimation.

Zusammenfassung

Die quantitative Bestimmung der Alkaloide aus der Rinde von Rauwolfia cumminsii geschieht durch DC–Trennung, anschließende quantitative Elution und spektrophotometrische Messung. In einer Probe Wurzelrinde wurden 2,7 % Serpentin und 0,4 % Reserpin gefunden, während der Gehalt an Rescinnamin für eine quantitative Bestimmung mit der beschriebenen Methode zu niedrig war.
