Summary

A brief review of the history and medicinal uses of species of Colchicum and recent work on members of this genus indigenous to Israel is given. The morphology and anatomy of all organs of the flowering plant of C. steveni Kunth are described and illustrated. Sclerenchyma, except for a minute amount in the corm, trichomes and crystalline cell inclusions are absent. It is considered premature, after a comparison of this work with previously published histological studies in the genus Colchicum, to state that any features are diagnostic.
