Summary

Berberis guimpelii was investigated for alkaloids and ascorbic acid.

The stem and root barks contain the highest proportion of alkaloids in autumn and winter.

In root bark tertiary alkaloids prevail whereas in stem bark the quaternary alkaloids berberin and palmatin are main alkaloids.

Seeds and the root wood are rich in alkaloids too.

Ripe fruits contain considerable amounts of ascorbic acid.
