ESTIMATION OF ESTROGENIC AND TOXIC PROPERTIES OF LUPINUS TERMIS IN MICE
Publication History
Publication Date:
15 January 2009 (online)
Summary
Working with Lupinus termis, the present investigation brought to light the following facts: –
-
The crude alcoholic extract did not show any estrogenic activity, a finding that can be attributed to high toxicity of the extract which prevented the use for large doses.
-
A daily subcutaneous injection of 1 mg. formed the minimum estrogenic dose of L. termis alkaloids. When this fraction was expressed in terms of estradiol monobenzoate, the latter was 1:351699.9 and 1:962566.8 when compared with 1 mg. and 3 mg. of the total alkaloids respectively.
-
In mice, the M.L.D. and L.D.100 for the alcoholic extract were 230.8 mg. and 384.6 mg per 100 gm. body weight respectively, while those for the total alkaloids were 23.1 mg. and 53.8 mg.
Zusammenfassung
Es wird über die pharmakologische Austestung der Toxizität und der oestrogenen Aktivität des alkoholischen Rohextraktes und der Gesamtalkaloid–Fraktion von Lupinus termis an Mäusen berichtet.
