CHROMATOGRAPHISCHE UNTERSUCHUNGEN ÜBER ANTHRADERIVATE DER SENNA
Publication History
Publication Date:
15 January 2009 (online)
Summary
Five commercial samples of Sennae Foliolum were extracted and the extracts investigated by paperchromatographic methods for the nature of the anthraquinonoid compounds present in the extracts. The benzene extracts were investigated with the method of Schratz; all samples contained aloeemodin and small amounts of chrysophanol (partly as anthrons) and some samples contained free sennidin too. For the methanol extracts containing the glycosides butanol: acetic acid: water mixtures (Partridge) were used. Sennosid A, sennosid B and the glucosennosids of Fairbairn were found to be present. The separation of the different quinonoid compounds on the chromatograms is very good. Elution of the spots and spectrophotometric quantitative estimation of the individual compounds would be easily possible.
