Significance

The authors report a protocol for the synthesis of differentially substituted tetraarylated thiophenes using a sequential C-H/C-O arylation method. The method results in good reaction yields and excellent regioselectivities. Thiophenes have found widespread use in materials science and this method expands the toolbox for functional organic material synthesis.
