Significance

The enantiospecific ZnCl2-catalyzed C(sp³)-C(sp³) cross-coupling of lactic acid tert-butyl ester triflate with organomagnesium reagents (Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 2008, 47, 5451) was successfully applied to the stereoselective synthesis of oligodeoxypropionates which constitute a frequent motif in many biologically relevant natural products.
