Significance

The authors had previously made bearings by silver and mercury ion assembly where the two outer rings underwent correlated motion. By using the Pt2 spacers, the two outer most rings in Pt6Ag6-L2L′2 +¹² can now move independently and properly emulate a macroscopic double ball bearing.
