Cutaneous Horn of the Eyelid in a 4-Year-Old Child

Introduction

Cutaneous horn or cornu cutaneum is an unspecific term used for the clinical description of horn-like protrusions consisting of keratin-like material [1]. A cutaneous horn is an uncommon neoplastic clinical sign mainly affecting elder caucasians on sun-exposed skin areas. A variety of different malignant, premalignant, and benign pathologies may lead to the development of a cutaneous horn. Horns should be differentiated by a pathohistological examination of basal tissue of the protrusion [1]. A cutaneous horn seems to be an extremely rare clinical finding in children. Only four cases have been documented in literature [2] [3] [4] [5]. Three of these were localized on the eyelids [2] [3] [4]. Here we report on the fourth case of a cutaneous horn on the eyelid of a child and present the second histopathological description of this clinical entity so far.
