Significance

This work discloses an iron-catalyzed intermolecular oxidative addition of alkoxycarbonyl radicals to alkenes. The radicals are generated from readily available carbazate precursors and the reaction is catalyzed by a low-toxic and inexpensive iron catalyst. The reaction proceeds in air and tolerates a range of functionalities, such as ester, bromo, and nitro substituents.
