On a global level, the use of natural products in womenʼs health care is motivated by completely different reasons. Menopausal women in Western societies seek safe alternatives to hormonal products which may be associated with an increased risk of developing mammary cancer. For women in developing countries, traditional medicinal products (and the natural compounds contained in them) represent the only continually available and affordable source for their health care. This dualism is covered within this special issue of Planta Medica.
