3,6-Secoprotoillud-6-en-3-ol previously derived from humulene was converted to 7(13)-protoilludene through generation of 3,6-secoprotoilludenyl cation under specially designed conditions so as to seize the newly generated 7-protoilludyl cation by neighboring group participation.
