ω-Alkenyl allyllithiums, readily available from the corresponding selenides and butyllithiums, rapidly cyclise and produce after hydrolysis 1-methyl-2-vinyl-cyclopentanes with high regio- and stereocontrol. The stereochemistry of the product proved to be highly dependent not only upon the nature of the solvent used but also upon the temperature at which the reaction was performed.
