We developed the effective formation of trifluoromethyl anion species from C6H5SCF3 by use of Et3GeNa. Various substrates, such as, alkyl, aryl and unsaturated aldehydes could be transformed to the corresponding α-trifluoromethylated carbinols in good to excellent yields under this reaction condition. This trifluoromethylation proceeded smoothly by use of only Et3GeNa/C6H5SCF3 combination.
