Twins with Oesophageal Atresia and the CHARGE Association

Abstract

Twins are rarely concordant for oesophageal atresia and tracheo-oesophageal fistula. Such a case is presented and their similar associated anomalies described. The CHARGE association is considered as a possible diagnosis and the aetiological implications considered.

Les jumeaux sont rarement concordant pour l'atrésie de l'œsophage et la fistule trachéo-œsophagienne. Un tel cas est présenté et leurs anomalies similaires associées sont décrites. Le syndrome de CHARGE est considéré comme un diagnostic possible et les implications étiologiques discutées.

Rara vez se han observado gemelos concordantes para atresia de esófago con fístula traqueoesofágica. Presentamos una pareja y describimos las anomalías observadas en ambos componentes. Consideramos que pueden diagnosticarse de asociación CHARGE y hacemos algunas consideraciones etiológicas.

Zusammenfassung

Es wird ein Fall von weiblichen Zwillingen vorgestellt, bei denen konkordant eine Ösophagusatresie mit tracheoösophagealer Fistel auftrat. Zusätzlich bestanden bei beiden Mädchen Begleitfehlbildungen im Sinne einer Charge-Assoziation. Die Kombination von Charge-Fehlbildungen mit Ösophagusatresie und tracheoösophagealer Fistel wird diskutiert und ätiologische Überlegungen werden angestellt.
