Congenital Patent Urachus Associated with Incomplete Urethral Duplication: A Rare Association

Abstract

Congenital patent urachus (CPU) is an uncommon anomaly. Blind incomplete urethral duplication is encountered more frequently than other types of urethral duplication (UD) in clinical practice. We describe a child with CPU in association with distal blind incomplete UD. A possible pathogenesis of this extremely rare coexistence is discussed.

L'ouraque perméable congénital (CPU) est une anomalie inhabituelle. La duplication urétrale incomplète est encore plus rare que les autres types de duplications urétrales (UD). Nous décrivons le cas d'un enfant avec CPU associé à une duplication distale incomplète. La pathogénie de cette association extrêmement rare est discutée.

El uraco permeable congénito es raro. La duplicación uretral incompleta ciega es más frecuente que otros tipos de dupliccidades. Describimos un niño con uraco permeable asociado a uretra duplicada distal incompleta y discutimos la patogenia de esta rara asociación.

Zusammenfassung

Ein angeborener Urachus persistens ist eine seltene Fehlbildung, insbesondere dann, wenn er mit einer Urethraduplikatur verbunden ist. Hierbei werden blinde, unvollständige Duplikaturen häufiger beobachtet als andere Formen von Urethradoppelungen. In der vorliegenden Arbeit wird ein Fall des persistierenden Ductus urachus mit gleichzeitig distaler, blinder, unvollständiger Urethradoppelung vorgestellt. Die mögliche Pathogenese dieses seltenen Zusammentreffens wird diskutiert.
