Significance

Environmental release of volatile organic compounds is a significant problem plaguing the coatings industry. Berrisford, Whiting and co-workers demonstrate a creative solution by using the evaporation of water to drive an equilibrium reaction, triggering the irreversible cross-linking of polymers substituted with vinyl sulfones and alcohols.
