Abstract
The constituents of the volatile oils of Montanoa tomentosa and Lippia graveolens, were investigated using capillary GC/MS. Borneol acetate, β-cubebene, and β-caryophyllene were found to be the major constituents of the volatile oil of M. tomentosa, while p-cymene, 1,8-cineol, thymol, and carvacrol were the major volatile components of L. graveolens. The possible correlation between the high concentration of monoterpenes and the alleged antifertility effect of the title plants is discussed.
