Abstract

A study of hypoglycemic activity of several extracts from Rubus fruticosus leaves was made in normoglycemic, hyperglycemic, and alloxan-diabetic rabbits; we also studied circulating insulin variations in normoglycemic rabbits. The maximum decrease obtained in the blood glucose levels in normoglycemic rabbits, was 20 % after having been treated with ethylic ether extracts. In glucose-induced hyperglycemia the maximum decrease was about 50 %.

In alloxan-diabetic rabbits the daily administration of 5 g/kg of the infusion, resulted in a 15 % decrease in the blood glucose levels. When this treatment was stopped, blood glucose levels began to rise reaching the initial values.
