Abstract

A palladium/copper co-catalyzed ipso-alkynylation and ortho-alkylation has been reported. Aromatic halides, including aryl iodides and aryl bromides, can be used as substrates in this reaction. Furthermore, alkyl halides, including alkyl iodides, alkyl bromides, and alkyl chlorides, can be used as alkylation reagents for this approach. A broad substrate scope and excellent functional group tolerance of this platform have been demonstrated in the highly selective ipso-alkynylation and ortho-alkylation. The desired reactions were operated under mild and operationally practical conditions, providing a powerful approach for the functionalization of aryl halides.
