Significance
Ergot alkaloids like lysergic acid and their synthetic derivatives exhibit a broad range of biological activities and have been used for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease and in antiprolactin drugs. The focal step of this synthesis is the palladium-catalyzed cyclization of bromoindolyl-substituted allene F to form the C/D ring system I in a single operation.
