Significance

The synthesis of fused quinoxaline and benzoxazine tricyclic skeletons by sequential condensation of 2-aminophenols and 1,2-diaminobenzenes respectively with acetylenedicarboxylates and malonyl chloride is reported. Unfortunately, the scope and limitations have been very poorly examined, making any judgment on the generality of the reaction tenuous.
