Significance
Platencin was isolated from Streptomyces platensis along with platencimycin. Both molecules have generated a great deal of interest owing to their potent antibacterial activity against drug-resistant strains. The activity is attributed to the novel and dual mode of action. The paper reports a concise route to the platencin core.
