Significance

The authors revisit the photocyclization reaction of 2, which had been previously studied and thought to yield dimer 4. However, XRD and MS analysis revealed that the product from the photochemical reaction under both dilute and concentrated conditions is surprisingly the cage hydrocarbon 3.
